Well I'm still trying to get that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . So far I have my mom on board and dad said he really doesn't care all too much. So I decided to call Allstate and see how much it'd cost to be added onto our policy. $390 every 6 months for just comprehensive. That sounds like a ton, right? Why so much?

That's not bad from my experience. We're paying almost $1000 every 6 months for full coverage on the Focus (2007 SES) and liability only on the Dakota (1995 SLT)

Because a) you are a young person, any one under 25 gets screwed for insurance and b) Allstate especially tends to be expensive for younger drivers.

sounds about right to me. before I was 25 I paid $1300 per year for comprehensive now @ 29 I pay $1200 per year for full coverage.
$780/year does not sound that bad that's only $65/month

I'm 31, the wife is 26. Allstate was even more expensive; we ended up going through Farmers

How old are you, that doesn't seem bad at all if you are under 25. Especially considering it is being subject to the "turbo tax"
My premium for my 97 Jetta was around $350/6mo before I hit 25.

Wait, just comprehensive, or basic + comprehensive? If it's the latter, that sounds like a pretty good deal, especially if you're under 25. I'm 24, clean driving record, and I have $330/6mo for basic coverage on the XJ in Michigan (have to pay for uninsured motorist coverage).

$65/mo?
I can't get anything for less than $90 in this state, and that's with a clean driving record with no points, tickets or accidents (my fault or otherwise). *Quit yer bitchin'.

You're young right (I assume this becasue your convincing parents still)? So you should expect your insurance to be high. Especially with a large, respectable [read: not cheap] company. If its on your parents insurance see if one of your parents will allow you to insure it as a secondary vehicle for their use with you as a secondary (or tertiary) driver on their policy. My father and I did this for my first car and it was just under $200 per 6 mo for this reason.

When I was pricing out insurance on new cars, I discovered that full coverage on a brand new financed 2014 SRT Challenger and my existing coverage on the XJ, FZ6, and trailer would still run me less than CrzRsn is paying for the 2013 Mustang GT and 92 Miata. Small victories.

I guess when you break it down that way its not too bad. It just sounded like a lot for a second car that will barely see 7,000 miles a year. And one that I'd only be paying about $1000 for...

Well I pay $85/month for just basic liability coverage, no comprehensive. And my car is almost 20 years old. I'm 25.

I guess it isn't awful when broken down monthly but it just sounded like a car that will never see more than 8,000 miles a year and will be bought for only $1000

$780/yr doesn't sound expensive. Is that for the whole package including comp? Or just the comp. add-on?

The sound she made when she asked which model in the 700 series was priceless.
"Ooohh, the Turbo."
And Im 16 but we'd be adding it to our families plan which already has two cars on it.
Thats why it sounds so much, its for a car im buying for $1000 and it will be driven about 7,000 miles a year

The insurance cartel in this state knows everyone who gets a car must buy because the state will take your license away if you don't. They also know most people on two wheels will also buy because even though you don't have to, it's a huge risk if you choose not to, so they charge whatever they want. Anyone who can get a good deal from them should be thankful to get at least that much.

Im still 16 which is why I'd have it don this way. I called asking if it was just added as a third car to our policy (my Civic is put on my grandmothers policy since she is the primary driver). I don't know if maybe I wasnt clear enough about it not being a daily driver or maybe Allstate doesn't care about that.
Becuase thats what bugs me. Its a car that won't see 8,000 miles a year and is being bought for $1000... so it just seems like a ton of money

Well it wouldnt hurt to see what it might cost you to get insurance on your own. I've been with Progressive for years, I started with them becasue they were cheap and thats what I needed for my beater truck, then they gave me all sorts of discounts for my motorcycles etc. etc. They aren't the worlds greatest insurance by a long shot, but like I said, it couldn't hurt to check.

That's not bad at all. I pay a bit over a grand a year for my 05 Outback. I'm 22, completely clean driving record. That's a lot.

Realistically for this wagon, I don't even need the best of coverage, because for the price I'd pay I won't be contacting them for everything.
And now that I've started snooping around, I see it isnt that bad. Esurance wants $200 a month, Geico is at $175 a month, The General is at $250 a month, so maybe its better than I thought.
I guess this was helpful to post since I had no perspective really on insurance costs. It just sounded like a lot to me since I don't know what others pay.

I need to move to where ever all the people replying here live. My insurance is $1200/6 months. and that's the lowest price I could find. I mean, I do have a loan on the car, but I wasn't paying much less for my old Ford.

Believe us, that's not so bad. Then you should get informations about the clauses that always exist everywhere, but that the Insurance won't tell you about: like a reduction if you never had accidents, or if you state that you make less than 12K miles per year, or if you should sign that you are the only driver of your car (be careful: if you should give the keys to someone else and he (she) has an accident, you'd be fully liable for it!) and so on... with all these clauses signed, I pay in Italy €333 per year for a 5 y.o. car, with a Civil Responsibility coverage till €6M...

I think this is pretty reasonable. Wait until you're on your own policy, insuring a vehicle that's in your name. Fair bet that'll hurt way more.

If you're 16 I'm astonished that it's not over $1000/6mo. I'm 26 and pay $500/6mo for full coverage including collision and comprehensive, with an excellent driving record and a much lighter vehicle that's not nearly as likely to cause catastrophic damage to other expensive cars on the road if I wreck.
